Meet Our Board of Trustees

Meet the St Andrew’s First Aid Board of Trustees.

Mr David Davidson (Chairman of the Board of Trustees)

David is a Chartered Surveyor who has recently retired as a Partner of Cushman & Wakefield LLP,  the third largest firm in the world specialising in Real Estate Consultancy.

During his 31 years with that business, he worked in their Glasgow and Edinburgh offices, and for 15 years served as Scottish Managing Director and then Chairman. His day-to-day specialism was advising on buying or selling commercial property investments. David is an active golfer and cyclist.

Mr Rudy Crawford MBE BSc (Hons) MBChB FRCS (Glasg) FRCEM

Rudy joined St Andrew’s in 1966 and was appointed to the Board in 1991.  Rudy has co-authored the authorised First Aid Manual of the UK Voluntary Aid Societies (St John Ambulance, British Red Cross and St Andrew’s First Aid).  Rudy’s professional career was spent in medicine, retiring as a Consultant in Accident and Emergency Medicine and Surgery at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Mrs Morven Fioretti RGN RM BSc (Hons) BA (DN) Dipm BSc (Hons) Mid

Morven first became a Trustee in 2000 and re-joined the Board in 2014.  Morven is a Trainer/Assessor and is passionate about delivering quality training and encouraging volunteers to develop.  She is a qualified nurse and midwife and currently works as a Midwifery Team Lead in Ross-shire.  

Mark Galloway

Mark has been a volunteer with St Andrew’s since 2006 and joined the Board in 2015. He is a qualified financial adviser and Chartered Banker, with over 21 years’ experience in financial services.

Mrs Ruth Morrison LLB(Hons) Dip LP

Ruth started work in Glasgow as a solicitor working in a variety of different sized practices. After having family, she co-founded and ran for 27 years a typesetting company in Falkirk supplying services to many of the largest Publishers in the UK. Her role covered Finance, HR and Health and Safety responsibility. During that time, she also joined the Board of Falkirk Community Trust and latterly was Chairperson. On retirement in 2022 she became a Trustee of St Andrews. 

Dr Neil Ramsay BMedSci (Hons) MBChB MRCP (Neuro)

Neil has been a volunteer with St Andrew’s since the age of 16 and it was these initial experiences as a young First Aider that helped inspire him to study medicine.

Neil was an active volunteer for many years setting up a local volunteer group at the University of Glasgow as well as undertaking operational leadership roles at many large events.

Neil currently works as a Consultant Neurologist in Fife and has specific clinical and research interests in movement disorders and functional neurological disorder (FND). Neil also undertakes clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease.

Neil joined the Board of Trustees in 2017 and believes strongly in developing young people and championing our valued volunteers.

Dr Tom Mallinson BSc (Hons) MBChB PGCHE MSc MRCGP (2020) MFSEM(UK) MCPara MCoROM FAWM FHEA FRRHHEd FRGS WP-C

Dr Mallinson began his career in healthcare reading for a BSc in Paramedic Science at the University of Hertfordshire and with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust with whom he was subsequently employed as a paramedic, practice placement educator and CBRN operative. He subsequently attended Warwick Medical School to qualify as a medical doctor. He has worked as a physician in emergency medicine, anaesthesia, critical care and aeromedical transfer roles across three countries.

He is an NHS prehospital care and rural medicine physician in North Scotland and an immediate care physician for BASICS Scotland, as well as holding a clinical governance role with that organisation. Dr Mallinson is a Fellow of several professional organisations including: The Faculty of Remote Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare, the Royal Geographical Society, the Higher Education Academy and the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. He has been awarded membership by examination of the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Douglas Cook

Douglas Cook is a senior marketing and commercial leader with over 15 years’ experience across digital platforms, financial services and consumer brands, including senior roles at Skyscanner and a formative period in brand management at Heineken UK. Most recently CMO at Pike+Bambridge, he now leads regional growth at active holiday company Macs Adventure.

He joins the board as a trustee, bringing expertise in growth strategy, brand building and commercial leadership. Alongside his professional career, Douglas is a qualified first aider and cycling coach, delivering mountain biking programmes for young people in Edinburgh- an experience that has given him a direct and personal appreciation of the vital role St Andrews First Aid plays in communities across Scotland.

John Harden

John is an Emergency Medicine consultant in University Hospital Wishaw, NHS Lanarkshire with special interest areas in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Resuscitation. He is also the Clinical Lead for Quality across the acute sector in NHS Lanarkshire.

John holds the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB,ChB) and a Masters in Public Health (MPH) with Merit from the University of Glasgow. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and a Scottish Quality and Safety.

Morag Abbott

Morag has a deep expertise in Risk, Control, Assurance and Governance, combined with extensive Project Management practice, gained over 20+ years working at senior levels across Banking, Oil and Gas and the Service Sector. She brings a wealth of experience operating within highly regulated environments, strengthening control frameworks, enhancing governance arrangements, and delivering assurance activity that improves organisational risk posture and regulatory compliance.

Outside of work Morag enjoys hillwalking and is a keen skier. 

Darren Cairns

Darren is a commercial and digital growth marketer with more than 25 years’ experience helping technology, finance and digital businesses grow and adapt through periods of change. He has worked with a wide range of organisations – from multinational brands including PlayStation, Yahoo! and Three, to high-growth scale-ups and founder-led businesses – bringing a practical, people-focused approach to strategy, communication and leadership.

Alongside his professional career, Darren is a qualified youth football coach and first aider, with a long-standing involvement in grassroots sport and youth development in Scotland. 

Wendy Bates

Wendy is a values‑led Chief Executive at Health in Mind, bringing extensive experience in trauma‑informed leadership, organisational culture, and strategic governance. She has supported organisations across Scotland to strengthen accountability, enhance quality, and deliver safe, inclusive services.

Wendy brings a collaborative approach to Board work, grounded in ethical decision‑making, human‑rights‑based practice, and a commitment to community wellbeing. She also volunteers with St Andrews First Aid, serving as Deputy Commandant in Dunfermline Company.

Frank Nelson

Frank is passionate about the work of St Andrew’s First Aid having been a charity Trustee for six years. He has had a successful career working with charities as a specialist fundraising consultant and is currently working with Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland to strengthen its Individual Giving programme.

Frank is a member of the Institute of Fundraising and his wealth of experience extends to successful appointments with Mary’s Meals, The Wildlife Trusts, The Beatson Cancer Charity, Scottish Opera and Sense Scotland. Frank is a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee and also assists the Chief Executive and Board with constitutional affairs.
