Communications and Engagement Lead

Help shape how Scotland sees St Andrew’s First Aid

St Andrew’s First Aid exists to save lives.

For more than 140 years, we have supported communities across Scotland through first aid training, event medical cover and volunteering. We are now strengthening how we communicate our impact, engage our people and build public trust.

To support that ambition, we are seeking an experienced Communications and Engagement Lead to join our team.

The role

This is a pivotal communications leadership role reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing, Communications and Inward Investment.

You will lead our communications activity across internal and external audiences — strengthening brand awareness, visibility and trust.

You will:

  • develop and deliver an integrated communications and engagement strategy
  • lead media relations and reputation management
  • oversee compelling storytelling across volunteering, training and community impact
  • advise senior leaders on messaging and reputational risk
  • act as brand guardian across all channels
  • lead digital communications strategy across owned and earned platforms
  • strengthen internal communications and engagement for staff and volunteers
  • use insight and performance data to drive continuous improvement

You will line manage the Marketing and Content Executive and work collaboratively across the organisation to ensure clear, consistent and confident communication.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a communications professional with:

  • significant experience in communications, PR or engagement within a charity, public or values-led organisation
  • strong experience managing digital channels and social media strategy
  • a track record of securing positive media coverage and delivering impactful campaigns
  • experience handling reputation, issues or crisis communications
  • excellent writing and editorial skills
  • experience using insight and analytics to improve performance
  • experience developing internal communications plans
  • a collaborative leadership style

You will combine strategic thinking with practical delivery, and you will be comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment.

Why join us

This is an opportunity to shape the voice of a respected Scottish charity.

You will help tell the stories of our volunteers, our learners and our communities. You will strengthen engagement across the organisation. And you will play a central role in building confidence in St Andrew’s First Aid for the years ahead.

If you are motivated by purpose and ready to lead modern, digitally-led communications, we would welcome your application.
