Recognition

  • Poisoning occurs when the body is exposed to a toxic substance in sufficient quantity to cause harm
  • Damage caused by poisoning is potentially fatal. While waiting for medical assistance, you should monitor the casualty’s vital signs and be prepared in case they become unconscious or if they stop breathing

 

Your aims

  • Try to find out what the casualty has been in contact with. Seek medical help, giving as much information as possible
  • Remove any clothing contaminated by chemicals
  • Never attempt to induce vomiting
