Completing First Aid Training in the “New Normal”

The steps we are taking to protect you

On Monday 3rd August, first aid training resumed in St Andrew First Aid’s centres across Scotland.

To keep candidates and staff safe, we are strictly adhering to safety guidance

Measures include: reducing our class sizes to accommodate social distancing, encouraging regular hand-washing, and rigorous cleaning for the manikins.

All staff and candidates have their temperature checked on arrival in the morning and after their lunch break.

This week, Glasgow HQ saw the return of our popular First Aid at Work 3 Day Block.

We are taking adapting our first aid training to adapt to the current crisis

We asked our candidates how they felt undertaking our new courses in the “new normal”:

I was initially nervous but my mind was put to ease as I and everyone else (even staff) received a non-contact temperature check upon entering (every time you left and re-entered as well as one in the afternoon even if you hadn't left the building).

Upon entering social distance measures and a one way system is advised by reception as well as the trainer.

Plenty of hand sanitiser and cleaning materials are placed around the building for cleansing. All candidates are kept 2 metres apart as per government guidelines which makes you feel secure.

You are supplied your own manikin with lungs still in the plastic bag so you know no one has touched anything you're touching.

You are advised of one partner who is your partner for the rest of the week to minimise contact with others, masks are worn when near the partner or when you're practising bandaging.

Other than the great safety measures that have been put in place, you also get asked to provide feedback on COVID measures which are acted on immediately if necessary.

The course is very enjoyable and informative, I now feel confident acting out my role as a First Aider in the work place.

Felt as if St Andrew's staff really cared about our wellbeing given the current Covid measures. Well organised.
