This week we wanted to boost women’s history month and the #BeBoldForChange campaign by highlighting the women in our workplace. We have a high proportion of women in our company and charity. Below we have a selection of short bios on just some of our women in first aid.

Our Charity St Andrew’s First Aid’s Patron
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has been Patron of St Andrew’s First Aid since 2003. The Princess Royal takes a keen interest in the work undertaken by our volunteers and the outstanding contribution they make in supporting the charity’s mission of equipping the people of Scotland, through widespread public education and training, to provide prompt and appropriate first aid to anyone suffering injury or sudden illness.
We are proud to have The Princess Royal as our charity Patron and hugely appreciate her continued support.

 

Senior Management Team

Talk about power women! Our Senior Management Team is made up of 50% women, leaders in their industry and prominent in local social enterprise efforts – we’re proud to have these ladies leading the way forward.

Managing Director: Michelle Ferguson

Michelle is Managing Director of St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd, a role she has held since 2013. Responsible for running the overall business of the social enterprise, including setting and leading the implementation of the organisation’s strategy and objectives and overseeing its operating model. She was previously Sponsorship Director at SSF Charity and before that held senior roles at Setanta Sports TV and within the Scottish media industry.
Michelle has two sons and her interests include travel, basketball, politics and keeping fit

Moyra Reid – Marketing and Fundraising Manager
Moyra joined St Andrew’s First Aid in August 2016 and is responsible for marketing the vast array of first class courses which St Andrew’s social enterprise has to offer across all of its training centres, as well as promoting the charity to businesses and the public through fundraising and events.
Originally from a media background, she has worked with three major newspaper groups as well as previously Client Services Director for two of Scotland’s large advertising agencies. This is her first role within the Third Sector.
Moyra’s interests include her son (who left home and then came back!), cinema, socialising and travel. She has recently taken up bridge and wants to get back to playing golf some day when time allows.

 

Training Team Members

Despite that first aid training is often seen as a male-dominated sector we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our female first aid trainers/assessors and their passion for first aid.

Angela McCappin – Trainer/Assessor
With twenty years’ experience in the care sector, Angela has been part of the St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd Glasgow team for over 5 years.
“I love meeting new people, my role allows me to both share knowledge and develop my own knowledge of first aid doing what I love. My motto is ‘in meeting the needs of others we meet the needs in ourselves’, I have one son and consider him my biggest achievement in life.”

Annemarie Pattison – Trainer/Assessor
Annemarie Pattison recently celebrated thirty years with St Andrew’s First Aid.
Joining the charity initially as a volunteer, Annemarie has been passing on First Aid skills for three decades. This commitment to education, Scottish welfare and her local community is a huge achievement and we would like to congratulate her on this milestone.
In her spare time she likes to knit and has recently got engaged!
“When I was a teenager my sister had her first seizure, it not only scared me but I immediately became aware of the importance of First Aid. A few years later I had an opportunity to attend a First Aid course. I really enjoyed it however I soon felt I was not doing enough practical First Aid. Shortly after I began volunteering with St Andrew’s First Aid.
I have always been passionate about helping people so when the opportunity for a full time Trainer/Assessor within the Social Enterprise of the charity presented itself I applied for the position and was successful.
Now that I help so many more people by providing good quality training, I feel satisfied knowing I can make a difference by inspiring others to step up and potentially save lives.”

Lauren Williams – Trainer/Assessor
Lauren Williams has always been employed in a first aid related role, with seven years previous experience as a lifeguard she has now been with St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd for 2 years.
In her spare time she is a talented musician and performs across Glasgow with her band.
“I decided to become a first aid trainer because I hated the idea of something happening and not knowing what to do to help, or even save a life. I love knowing first aid I wish everyone did.- I like to think that by teaching people the basics I’ve hopefully helped candidates feel confident that they can help in any situation.
For example, I had a candidate tell me that her colleague had recently attended one of my courses a few weeks previously and a week later had to perform CPR on a team mate at football and use the on-site defibrillator! He managed it all with confidence and luckily the casualty survived, he was very glad he knew what to do and had asked that she passed this information on to me with thanks. It’s moments like that that I’m glad I do my job.”

Sylvia Cockburn – Trainer/Assessor
Sylvia Cockburn has delivered first aid training for St Andrew’s First Aid for nearly thirty years.

In 1999, Sylvia was one of the first people to achieve the then brand new First Aid Trainer/Assessor Award qualification and subsequently went on to qualify as a Training & Development Trainer/Assessor and finally Internal Verifier. Sylvia has been partly responsible for the development of many of Trainer/Assessors since then.

Her passion for the organisation is undoubted and when she retired, Sylvia made herself available to deliver first aid training for St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd on a near enough full-time basis.

In 1994, Sylvia was the last person to win the Wilkinson Sword trophy for first aid instruction.

Our current records show that in the past twenty years Sylvia has delivered or assessed 1,500 courses to approximately 15,000 students. Surely a record not many in the organisation can boast.

 

Social Enterprise Team

At St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd we provide ample opportunities for new training and personal development for all staff, offer internship programmes for teenagers in deprived areas and generous graduate positions.

Giving women the tools and confidence to build their career and #BeBold is something I feel strongly about. Therefore, seeing the next generation of female professionals climb the ladder with our help is not only satisfying but inspiring – well done ladies.”

Amy Jardine – Senior Sales Consultant
Amy Jardine joined St Andrew’s First Aid as a volunteer office assistant in Aug 2012 and became the Telesales and Admin Assistant for the social enterprise in Sept 2012.

As Sales revenue increased, the Sales team grew and in June 2015 Amy was promoted to Senior Sales Consultant, supporting a team of four Telesales Advisers. Her day to day responsibilities include business to business sales, reporting on progress against sales targets, and managing key customer accounts.

Amy grew up in the Highlands and has lived in Glasgow for twelve years. She enjoys creative writing in her spare time, cinema trips and travelling.

Tara Docherty – Marketing Executive
Tara joined as an Administration Assistant in early August 2012, over the years she has gained experience in different areas of the company; from managing training courses to assisting with finance matters, Tara was promoted to Administrator in 2014 and became responsible for all online bookings.
In September 2015 Tara was looking for a new challenge in her role within and began study for a role in the Marketing Department.
Joining the team in November 2015 Tara continues to increase her knowledge in all things digital and was a key part of the new website design team. She is now responsible for managing the website, as well as SEO and mailing lists.
In her spare time Tara loves all things baking and is known around the national headquarters for bringing in treats for her colleagues to enjoy.

Kristina Rennie – Marketing Executive
Kristina Rennie joined St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd in February 2016. A creative graduate, Kristina is responsible for the PR communications, social media, content writing for publications and email marketing campaigns.
Now in her second year with the organisation Kristina’s role has grown to include preparing annual campaign plans and she has developed an interest in brand development whilst attending Digital Garage training from Google.
In her spare time Kristina runs an organisation called Vegan Connections CIC which includes a quarterly magazine featured in Glasgow/Edinburgh/London and an annual festival in Glasgow. She is also a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady and loves gin martinis.
