Trainer of the Month – Alan Paton
Alan’s interest in first-aid started when he was going for his DofE, the first-aid element was the perfect taster and he decided to learn more eventually gaining his full certificate and providing first-aid cover at various events.
After joining the Royal Air Force Police Alan tried to keep his first-aid skills up to date. He was offered part time work driving private ambulances all over the south of England moving people from hospital to hospital; or from home; or taking them home. This freed up the frontline ambulances for emergency work, whilst enabling Alan to complete more in depth medical training.
‘When the RAF decided to post me, I joined a different firm who were more into event first-aid cover, such as karting, international moto cross, football, rugby and horse events anything from dressage to cross country. In my spare time, I volunteered as a First Responder, being sent to incidents by ambulance control, trying to beat the ambulance.’
On leaving the RAF Alan joined St Andrews First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd as a trainer/assessor based in Aberdeen. He covers training all over the north of Scotland, as well as training in our other centre in Inverness, or at the firm’s location.
