Ian Ridland
Full-time Trainer/Assessor, Member since 1966
Ian first started with St Andrew's when working on the railway and went along to a class to gain a First Aid Certificate, After the class Ian had made new friends and decided to become a volunteer. Ian's Company, Leith District, was involved in taking part in First Aid competitions and Ian quickly became involved in this as well, not only competing but acting as casualty also which expanded his circle of friends within St Andrew's. Ian found that being a volunteer gave him access to a lot of events I would not have attended - everything from Speedway to folk singing, classical music to pop, Rugby at Murrayfield and numerous duties at Edinburgh Festival and Tatoo and THE BEATLES! Ian soon realised that being a member of St Andrew's meant that you could not only be a useful member of society but enjoy yourself!
Ian's interest in First Aid continued when he became a qualified Trainer/Assessor and he now works full time at the St Andrew's premises in Edinburgh.
"Training people so that they in turn can help others is what I am passionate about. For over 40 years St Andrew's has given me the opportunity to fulfill my passion and to build a network of truly trusted friends along the way."
