Queen Street Company

Founded in 1904, Queen Street BR was one of the original volunteer companies of St Andrew's Ambulance Corps. Since then we have grown from strength to strength and now boast a complement of over 40 members.

Queen Street BR was originally formed by members of the railway industry who met at Queen Street Station to provide members of the public with essential life saving first aid when required.  This was required due to the increase of accidents resulting from traffic and modern machinery.

In 1973 Queen Street BR amalgamated with two other companies from the Glasgow area, St Rollox BR and Buchanan Street BR.  As the biggest company, they retained the name Queen Street BR and continued to meet at Queen Street Station.

As there were very few remaining members of the railway industry left within the company, Queen Street BR moved to NHQ at Cowcaddens and was renamed Queen Street Company in 1990.

In 2004 Queen Street Company joined the corps by celebrating its centenary.

In 2006 St Andrews Ambulance Corps changed its name to St Andrew’s First Aid, to better reflect the work that was carried out by its members.

2010 saw over one million pounds spent on the refurbishing of our home at National HQ which was reopened in January 2011.

We meet on Monday evenings, 7.30 – 9.30 pm, at St Andrew's First Aid Headquarters, St. Andrew's House, 48 Milton St, Glasgow.
