Requirements for training premises

The accommodation must be adequately lit and ventilated and provide comfortable seating for students, with facilities for writing notes and floor space for practical first aid work. Male/female lavatories must be available and an area for tea/coffee making.

The room chosen for training should be large enough to accommodate students with sufficient room to carry out practical aspects involving kneeling or lying on the floor. As a minimum the room should be approximately 7m x 7m (24ft x 24ft) for a class of up to twelve candidates and 12m x 7m (40ft x 24ft) for a class of between twelve and twenty-four candidates.

If an assessment is to take place, three distinct areas should be provided – one in which to conduct assessments, one for students awaiting assessment and one for those who have completed the assessment, if they are to remain on the premises. Where two or more elements of the practical assessment are to be carried out at the same time, the accommodation must be suitably divided to provide each candidate with the necessary degree of privacy.
