Setting the Standard in First Aid
Providing Scotland with the highest standards in First Aid skills,
services and volunteering opportunities

Why you need protection

Your employer's insurance must cover you for any claims made against you for incidents arising from your First Aid duties at your workplace during work hours. Whilst you are acting in any other official capacity as a First Aider, (whether you are being paid or not) you should be insured by the organisation for whom you are working. It is also recommended that you obtain formal confirmation of cover.

However, it is a sad fact of life that you could still be sued for your actions if you administer First Aid outside of your 'workplace' or 'official' responsibilities.

Associate Membership Insurance
We are so confident that we provide all of our students with the appropriate skills to be competent First Aiders that you will automatically be included free of charge under our 'Associate Membership Insurance' cover when you successfully complete your course.

The cover comprises:

  • Public liability insurance cover up to the value of £10m should you ever be faced with a claim arising from First Aid you have rendered outside of your workplace responsibilities and whilst not covered by your employer's insurance or any other insurance.
  • The cover is effective as long as you hold a valid St Andrew's First Aid certificate in any of the following:

o   Standard First Aid

o   HSE Approved 'First Aid at Work'

o   HSE Approved 'First Aid at Work' Requalification

o   HSE Approved 'Emergency First Aid at Work'

o   Emergency First Aid

o   Sports Injuries First Aid
